Many students get misguided or carried away while they  start taking an active part in the political affairs of their  institution, City or region, The resort to indiscipline and other  illegal ways to show their resentment to an issue or policy. It  iS not uncommon to see the protest marches by students going  unruly. If the situation turns out of control many ugly incidents  do happen, including pelting stones at the police, damaging  national property, disturbing the traffic and even harming  private property.

Sometimes the involvement in local politics by the union  leaders is so intense that there is full-fledged rivalry. This leads  to groupism among students which is harmful for the interest  of students. Many students are even rusticated from their  college for induging in hooliganism, fighting in the college  premises using weapons, etc. Such despicable activities are  witnessed between different student unions in colleges and  universities. This a major fall-out of politics in educational  institutions.

Some advantages of students taking part in politics are  also there. First of all a student who starts actively participating  in politics, generally develop fine qualities of public speaking.  Many impressive leaders were known to have become good  speakers in their college days. Again in a democratic country  it is extremely useful if students know about day-to-day politics.  Students are the makers of modern India. The question  whether students should be allowed to take part in politics has  been widely debated.

Some politicians, educationists and  teachers think that the students should be given practical  training in politics. Being the future citizens of the country, they  must get primary and practical knowledge of democracy.  Opposition political parties speak in favour of students  participation. In the battle of freedom, students played an  active role with the nationalists and patriots of our country.  They made their memorable contribution in uprooting the  foreign rule from our country. But now, when the country is  free, the question of students taking part in politics is a  disputed one.
